A user report by Dr. Christoph Neugebauer
We trusted in the products from Ultradent Products in our practice for many years. And this was the right thing to do. Likewise, we were immediately impressed by the latest development of curing lights – the VALO X light – which is the successor of the VALO™ and the VALO™ Grand curing lights and cannot imagine working without it.
It is long, slim and slender due to its flat head and light weight. The lens has a pleasing 12.5 mm diameter. There is an easy-to-use control button on the top and bottom of the light for the activation and switch between the different modes. The VALO X curing light can be used in both ways: corded or cordless. We decided for the latter one, to have it operated with batteries. Anytime we decide to go back, it's just a matter of plugging the power adapter back in.
The central function of a curing light is, of course, the reliable polymerization of adhesives and all composites, both for direct restorations as well as the placement of indirect restorations. Therefore, the VALO X light offers a continuous standard mode with blue light and an irradiation of 1,100mW/cm2 for 10 seconds (13,5 joule), as well as a pulsed Xtra Power mode with double power in the half time of illumination (corresponding to 2,200mW/cm2 for 5 seconds (13,5 joule)), divided into 3 short cycles (pulses). The integrated acceleration sensor switches between these two options by simply moving the light head downwards - like a drum movement - without pressing a button or anything else. A very elegant and intuitive feature that makes it much easier to working with the light.
The VALO X curing light is complemented with five accessory lenses. First, I would like to highlight the two lenses for polymerization:
When we're cementing veneers, prior to the final polymerization, the PointCure™ lens allows excess removal in a safe way, due to the rapid pinpoint curing in the central area of a translucent restoration this is very helpful.
When it comes to direct composite restorations, the ProxiCure™ Ball Lens supports the creation of sufficient interproximal contacts by adapting all common matrix systems to the respective adjacent tooth. A great aid!
This would probably be the end of the user report for all competitor products on the market... but that is not the case with the VALO X curing light!
The VALO X curing light also supports us in the field of diagnostics. It offers white and black light diagnostic aid modes. On the one hand, this provides "real" light in the sense of illuminating distal areas in the mouth for details, shade taking, and therapeutic safety. The black light also reveals residues of composite and other materials with fluorescent components. This is very helpful when removing old fillings! The already mentioned sensor equally comes into play for switching between the different diagnostic aid modes: a horizontal wave movement allows the dentist to change the mode out of the wrist. A very successful solution!
The VALO X light is a top device, we would not want to miss it anymore!
